A new month means a new featured designer! This month we talked with Liz Barrett, a member of our industrial design team in the Client Brands group. Liz shared her perspective on the design field as well as her thoughts on Blue Clover Studios.
Q: Why did you choose to get into industrial design?
Liz: Growing up there were many signs I should be an engineer: taking things apart, asking why this thing worked or why that thing was broken, and I even excelled in math. What I failed to see was how many reasons I had to be a designer. I saw my artistic side as more of a hobby and not something that I could make a career out of. I was introduced to industrial design in college when I realized engineering was not what I thought it would be.
Q: What do you find most challenging when it comes to design?
Liz: The most challenging thing about design in general is finding your own unique style and being confident in it when presenting to others. It can be hard to take constructive criticism, but in the end that is what will make your designs better. As you gain more experience, this becomes easier.
Q: If you could vacation anywhere, where would it be?
Liz: Traveling is one of my favorite things. On my bucket list of vacation spots you can find Ireland, Hawaii, and Australia as my top three. I have been to Europe but would definitely return many more times because there is plenty to see. I’ve never been to Asia, but I think that would be an awesome cultural experience and I would absolutely love to see the extensive history and architecture. Australia, however, really sparks my curiosity because who doesn’t want to meet a koala?
Beyond possible vacation spots, I think traveling to space would be the ultimate trip of a lifetime! … I just have to wait for that galactic airline to lower their price a few hundred thousand dollars.
